Teaching Engagements

Educators from across the United States and beyond are harnessing the power of my DNA Series technique to inspire their budding art students. This unique style, rooted in a blend of geometric and organic shapes, serves as the bedrock for a wide spectrum of artistic expressions. My DNA series started as doodles, progressed to paintings and collages and is now being created in wood.

I’m thrilled to announce a new dimension to my interactive sessions, thanks to my recent partnership with Woodpeckers Crafts. This collaboration enables me to extend my DNA Series technique into the realm of 3D art. Now your students will have the opportunity to explore and create their own 3D interpretations of my DNA style art with wood pieces I designed. This exciting development opens a whole new world of artistic possibilities, adding depth and texture to their creative expressions.

“My art is unique because I am unique. Everything I create is a reflection of meeeeeee!” Reginald Laurent

Testimonials

  • Melinda Lebouf- Visual Arts Teacher- Dallas, TX

“In 2014, I asked Reginald to Skype with my 3rd grade students with no expectation on how it would go. Reginald blew us away with his humor and ability to tell his story through his artwork. He has a natural ability to connect with children and had my students giggling, chanting positive affirmations, and feeling validated as artists themselves. My students enjoyed asking him questions and showing off their projects inspired by Reginald’s abstract art. Many years later, the students he met virtually still remember the impact of connecting with him and the lessons they learned from Reggie and his artwork and talk about it with a spark in their eyes and a smile on their faces. You can’t ask for a better classroom experience or more positive impression than that!”

  • Jackie Quinn: Visual Arts Teacher- Highcroft Campus

“Reggie is an amazing guest artist and someone the students and I will have back each year. My art students and I were so excited and pleased to be able to connect with Reggie Laurent on Zoom. Reggie has a welcoming and friendly personality and his kind and genuine manner was evident from the beginning of our conversation on-line. Seeing inside an artist studio and speaking with Reggie was exciting for my 5th grade students. There were many “wows” with students inspired by his words and his art. The fifth- grade teachers and students thanked me several times for allowing them to meet Reggie and here about his art and learn more about him.

I am a k-5 art teacher and found that Reggie could easily speak to students at all grade levels. Reggie was easy to communicate with prior to working with my students and was quicker at answering emails than I was. The best part is Reggie’s inspiration and excitement that he created with his visit. A student said to me, “I am going to do art everyday just like Reggie!”

  • Christy Magro-Art Teacher: Edison, Strawbridge and Van Sciver Elementary Schools Haddon Township School District

"I had the pleasure of introducing Reggie to my 3rd grade art students during remote learning. Throughout the entire experience, from coordinating schedules, pre-visit questions and the virtual visits themselves; Reggie was one of the most positive, down to earth and humble people I've ever spoken with. I was already a huge fan of his art, with it's bold colors and fun style, but after hearing his conversations with my students, I have an even deeper appreciation for his work. He responded to every student's question authentically and graciously. He explained art concepts that related to my curriculum in kid-friendly terms, and most importantly he found multiple opportunities to tie in positive messages for kids to take away with them. Not only did he talk to them, but he also came up with an engaging and fun collaborative activity for us to do while we were all together. This was definitely an experience my students and I will never forget!”

“Reggie did 2 zoom schoolwide assemblies at our school-- one for K-5 and another for 6-12. It was engaging and fun-- the kids and parents loved it! Reggie is full of so much heart and passion, and it shines through in the way he talks about his artwork, and in his interactions with the kids as they asked questions. We structured the presentation as part slideshow and part interactive art lesson. Through the slideshow he shared some of his favorite pieces of artwork, and the process and passion behind creating them. He lead the kids through a fun, guided step-by-step art lesson. This lesson was appropriate for all ages-- from Kindergarten to even adults! He pulled shapes out of a bucket and one by one the kids drew (or painted) those shapes onto their paper. Then they filled in the shapes with color and patterns. Reggie stressed the idea that even though they used the same shapes, their artwork will all be different and unique depending on the colors and patterns they choose. Throughout the presentation Reggie weaved in messages of diversity, creativity, respect, confidence, and following your heart. I can't recommend this enough, it was an amazing, interactive assembly that was a big hit in our school. Many of the parents were talking the next day about how great it was! If you can get Reggie to your school, either in-person or virtually for a class lesson or schoolwide assembly, do it!”

“I was recently introduced to Reggie Laurent’s artwork online and thought his “DNA Style” series would be a perfect lesson to cover with my virtual fourth grade students. They enjoyed learning about him, viewing his artwork, and trying to create their own piece using geometric and organic shapes. I reached out to Mr. Laurent through email to let him know how much the students enjoyed the lesson and to see if he would be interested in seeing their work. I had no idea how amazing his response would be! He wrote back quickly and was genuinely enthusiastic. He sent wonderful pictures of his work and even created a video for my students. It absolutely made my day and gave me something truly special to share with them. When I sent some samples of their work, he took the time to make another video using their names. My students were blown away when I showed them the videos, they just couldn’t believe Reggie Laurent saw their work and mentioned them. I know this experience will stay with them and encourage them to see art as accessible and possible. I can’t wait to have a virtual lesson with him next year so my now third graders can meet him and also benefit from his art. I truly appreciate the time, care, and effort he put into our correspondences and can’t stop talking about it. Reggie Laurent is so thoughtful, humble, and talented. It’s clear he is passionate about art and children!”
